Duck-billed storage

Platypus Technology Inc., West Lebanon, N.H. the high-performance solid-state storage system developer, today announced that the company has closed its second round of funding, totaling $7 million. The second round of financing is co-led by Washington-based ECentury Capital and Technology Venture Partners, a leader in information technology and communications funds in Australia. Additional key investors include Mitsubishi, The Carlyle Group and JAFCO Asia, the latter two having been investors in the company's initial round of funding. Platypus' said its products can free applications from the I/O bottlenecks caused by hard drives, allowing mission critical files to run from silicon, rather than from rotating platters. DRAM-based storage systems provide many inherent benefits over the hard disk drive-based storage alternatives, including massive data transaction rates, faster access times, greater reliability and lower power utilization, Platypus said.
