Vixel, Sagitta announce partnership; Finisar introduces GTX Notebook System; and QLogic introduces support and services program.

Managing SANs across the pond

Vixel Corp., Bothell, Wash., and Sagitta Performance Systems Ltd., a UK-based SAN consulting company, announced a partnership agreement to deliver SAN management capabilities to the European storage user community, the companies said. Sagitta has selected Vixel's SAN InSite Professional as its storage resource management software and will sell and install the product as part of their cache of storage products and service offerings. SAN InSite Professional is management software product that lets users centrally discover, monitor and manage all the devices in their SAN, regardless of the device manufacturer or location on the network, according to Vixel.

Finisar Systems a Division of Finisar Corp., Sunnyvale, Calif., introduced its GTX Notebook System, a portable laptop based analyzer, BERT, error injector and generator for storage area networks (SANs). According to Finisar, the GTX system is designed for field service and applications engineers, and supports Fibre Channel, InfiniBand and iSCSI protocols. The GTX Notebook system contains the full GTX Analyzer capabilities of BERT, error injection and generator. It also captures link data and displays in both Fibre Channel and embedded protocol formats and displays link performance metrics and error conditions in real time, the company said. Intended for Fibre Channel product design, test, and service, the GTX-Notebook is the first member of Finisar?s new GTX family of Portable2 Gbit/sec data rate instruments. The GTX Notebook System will be available in October 2001. Pricing has not been announced.

QLogic is at your service

QLogic Corp., Aliso Viejo, Calif., introduced a new support and services program for QLogic SANbox switches and SANblade host bus adapters (HBAs) called the SANtrack Service and Support Program. QLogic said the program is designed to provide customers with the flexibility to create their own unique service and support package and provides a range of services including: "Select" and "Prime" service plans, pre-install analysis, installation, SANtrack technical training, onsite service and spares upgrades.

New tape, new features

OnStream Data B.V., based in the Netherlands, has begun shipping its ADR 2.60ide, a new digital tape drive that comes bundled with Yosemite Technologies' TapeWare XE single server-based network software and a 60G Byte ADR2 tape cartridge. The new drive carries an estimated street price of $499. The ADR2.60ide offers double the media capacity of its first-generation counterparts, transfer speeds of up to 5 MB/sec, easier directory access and faster search speeds, the company said.

A new chief at SAN Valley

Campbell, Calif., headquartered SAN Valley Systems Inc., announced changes to its management team that it says position the IP-SAN networking company for growth and expansion in its industry. Robert Coackley has been appointed president and chief executive officer (CEO) and joins the company's board of directors. Former CEO Sandy Helton, who drove the restructuring with other SAN Valley founders, has been named to the newly created position of chief technology officer (CTO) and executive vice president (EVP). Additionally, Niraj Jain's position has been expanded to vice president of marketing and business development, According to the company.
