NAS vendor debuts new version of OS

Network Storage Solutions (NSS), Chantilly, Va., a provider of network-attached storage (NAS) systems, announced the release of Version 4 of its SPANStor NAS operating system. The new release features a journaling file system (JFS) and support for Failover functions between primary and secondary servers. According to NSS, SPANStor with JFS provides a highly scalable, log-based file system for high performance systems. JFS also offers users improved structural consistency, uncorrupted data recoverability, and faster restart times than non-journaled file systems in the event of system failure.

DataCore adds to partner program

DataCore Software, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., a maker of storage virtualization and networking software, has added Emulex Corp., Costa Mesa, Calif., to the DataCore SANvantage Technical Partner Program. The companies have teamed on the 'Powered by DataCore' storage virtualization solution, combines DataCore's software with the Emulex LightPulse LP8000 and 2Gb/s LP9002 Fibre Channel host bust adapters (HBAs) to deliver connectivity for storage area networks (SANs). DataCore has certified Emulex' HBAs, with its own SANsymphony software, which supports Unix, Windows, Linux and NetWare servers. The Emulex LP8000 host bus adapters and SANsymphony's caching, combine to improve transaction throughput and network performance, according to DataCore. Together in the DataCore Solutions Lab, SANvantage Technical Partners work with DataCore to design and integrate solutions into complete storage area networks.

CNT delivers remote managed services for Tivoli Storage Manager

Storage networking specialist CNT Corp., Minneapolis, Minn., has announced a new Managed Services offering: Remote Managed Services for Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM). With this offering, CNT becomes the first independent provider of storage services to offer remote management and monitoring for backup and recovery infrastructures based on TSM. This service offering lets clients outsource backup and recovery operations without having to outsource their primary data storage. Remote Managed Services for TSM provides monitoring and management of backup applications, processes and platforms of infrastructures employing TSM. Depending on need, clients can select from three service levels: silver, gold and platinum. A comprehensive Service Level Agreement (SLA) is established with each client.

Imation goes Ultrium

Imation Corp., Oakdale, Minn., announced the availability of Imation Black Watch Ultrium tape cartridges. Designed for network data processing, backup and archive applications, the Ultrium tape system features 15 MB/sec native transfer rate, and four cartridge capacities of 20, 60, 100 and 200G Bytes with 2:1 compression. The new offering is the latest in Imation?s line of network and data center format tape cartridges that includes Imation Travan, SLR, Black Watch DLTtape, 3590E, 9840, and 9940 cartridges. A built-in cartridge memory chip allows historical usage and other information to be read without inserting the cartridge into a drive. The Black Watch Ultrium cartridges recently passed the independent compliance verification process for Ultrium format cartridges. Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Seagate developed the open format LTO specification.

Dot Hill deals with consulting firm

Dot Hill Systems Corp., a Carlsbad, Calif.-based storage area network (SAN) provider has signed a commercial agreement with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, one of the largest management and IT consulting firms in the world. Under the terms of the agreement, Cap Gemini's Open Storage Solutions (O2S) group will recommend Dot Hill's SANnet systems to its customers in addition to providing service. A Cap Gemini spokesperson said Dot Hill's SANnet systems were selected based on their reliability, flexibility and extensive scalability both in performance and capacity.

nStor gains Insight

nStor Technologies Inc., San Diego, Calif., has partnered with Insight a global direct sales and marketer of name-brand computers, hardware and software, to provide storage solutions to the enterprise marketplace. The companies have signed a multi-year reseller agreement that has Insight offering the NexStor 3000 series of Fibre Channel and SCSI RAID solutions as its top storage offering. Insight stated that it selected the NexStor product family based on several key factors, including a platform-independent nature, high-density packaging, and an aggressive price-to-performance ratio. Under the terms of the agreement, nStor will also team with Insight to provide training, installation and on-site support services. The NexStor 3150 features dual RAID controllers and accommodates up to eight 1- or 1.6- inch disk drives, providing 584G Bytes of storage in a 3.5" high (2U) enclosure.
