Brief: NEC expands alliance with EMC

NEC Computers, Inc., Melville, N.Y., is building on its relationship with storage vendor EMC Corp., by announcing that NEC will now offer EMC's Clariion FC5300 fibre channel RAID storage system as an option with its Express5800 servers. This expands the breadth of the original strategic alliance between the two companies established in 1998. Under the original agreement, Hopkinton, Mass-based, EMC's Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems have been available on NEC's Express5800 servers.

The EMC Clariion FC5300 operates in midrange storage environments, and, according to EMC, offers optional software tools including the Navisphere storage management suite, which configures, monitors, and tunes the disk arrays, and ATF data path failover software, for rerouting data traffic in case of system failure.

The NEC Express5800 server family ranges from an entry-level, two-processor capable workgroup server to an eight-processor, rack-mounted server for enterprise level businesses.

EMC's Clariion FC5300 is available as an option on the NEC servers only in the North American market. Entry-level configurations start at $12,000.
