Synology America Corp. has made several product announcements this month, including additions and updates to its DiskStation and RackStation product lines.

Synology introduces new DiskStation systems for SOHO/SMB users

Synology has added three DiskStation systems to its small office/home office (SOHO) and small- and medium-sized business (SMB) product line: the DS114, DS214 and DS414. Coupled with DiskStation Manager 4.3, the devices offer the company's Cloud Station feature, which allows users to keep files, file types and folders in sync across all devices. The devices also offer 256-bit AES encryption on shared folders to keep private data private, VPN access, and iOS, Android and Windows Phone support.

The DS114 is a single-bay product that has a 1.2 GHz processor, integrated floating point unit and 512 MB of RAM. It offers two USB 3.0 ports and one eSATA port. It offers a maximum internal storage capacity of 4 TB.

The DiskStation DS214, a two-bay network-attached storage (NAS) server for SOHO and SMB users, is an upgrade to last year's DS213. The DS214 offers read/write speeds of more than 100 MBps, has 512 MB of memory and an internal storage capacity of 8 TB in two 4 TB drives.

The DS414 is a four-bay DiskStation with the same design as its predecessor. It has hot-swappable bays, tool-less drive caddies and an upgraded dual-core processor to 1.33 GHz. The DS414 offers 16 TB of maximum storage capacity in four 4 TB drives.

The DiskStation DS114, DS214 and DS414 are shipping globally and will be available in the United States in the coming weeks. The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) is $199.99 for the DS114, $329.99 for the DS214 and $499.99 for DS414.

Synology unveils new RackStation models

Synology earlier this month announced availability of their new RS2414+ and RS2414RP+ NAS models, which serve as the successors to the RX1214/RX1214RP predecessor NAS devices.

Both models offer modular designs and can scale up to 24 drives by taking advantage of the RX1214/RX1214RP 12-bay expansion units, allowing for up to 96 TB of high-performance storage. The RX1214/RX1214RP can also be used as a dedicated local backup product for the RackStation when configured as a separate volume.

Designed for use with Synology's DiskStation Manager 4.3, the devices feature quad NICs for network redundancy and offer multiple RAID levels. The RS2414RP+ also includes redundant power supplies.

In addition to the various redundancy options the RS2414/RS2414RP+ offer, DSM 4.3 also provides Active Directory and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol support for up to 100,000 users/groups; access control lists for granular file-level New Technology File System-style permissions;  iSCSI support; compliance with VMware, Citrix Xen and Microsoft Hyper-V; LUN backup, cloning and snapshot software; solid-state drive (SSD) TRIM support; SSD read caching; and Cloud Station for synching files between multiple devices.

Synology RackStation RS2414+/RS2414RP+ are now shipping globally. The RX1214/RS1214RP will be available in the U.S. in the coming weeks. MSRPs are as follows: RS2414+, $1,899; RS2414RP+, $2,499; RX1214, $1,699; RX1214RP, $2,399.
