Infortrend adds SSDs from STEC; and other data storage news

Infortrend adds STEC ZeusIOPS SSDs; LaCie upgrades 8 Gbps Fibre Channel storage; Tandberg Data ships 1 TB RDX removable disk; Iron Mountain offers service to convert files into EMR system; and other data storage news.

Infortrend Corp. said STEC Inc.'s ZeusIOPS solid-state drives (SSDs) are available on the Infortrend Enterprise Scalable Virtualized Architecture (ESVA) F60-2830 Fibre Channel SAN (FC SAN) systems.

The 3U ESVA F60-2830 supports 73 GB and 146 GB ZeusIOPS SSDs with SAS interfaces, as well as 147 GB, 300 GB, 450 GB and 600 GB 15,000 rpm SAS, and 1 TB and 2 TB 7,200 rpm SATA drives.

LaCie ships faster 8 Gbps storage

LaCie has launched the fastest addition to its 12big Rack portfolio – the LaCie 12big Rack Fibre 8. LaCie 12big Rack Fibre 8 is an 8 Gbps Fibre Channel storage system with dual controllers aimed at enterprises requiring fast data rates for high-performance file sharing, such as post-production workloads. The vendor said the system can deliver 120,000 IOPS for high-performance database hosting.

Tandberg Data adds 1 TB removable disk cartridge

Tandberg Data said it will start shipping 1 TB RDX removable disk cartridges with the Tandberg Data RDX QuikStor next month. The vendor claims the 1 TB RDX cartridge will let customers back up their entire server onto a single cartridge, ensuring that their data is fully protected for instant availability or off-site safekeeping. Tandberg also bundles RDX AccuGuard deduplication software with QuikStor drives. The 1 TB RDX QuikStor cartridge is $485.

Iron Mountain helps healthcare convert files into EMR system

Iron Mountain Inc. said it is combining its services for document scanning, file archiving and data backup into one system for healthcare organizations converting hard-copy patient files into an electronic medical record (EMR) system. The Iron Mountain EMR Enablement Solution offers healthcare organizations the ability to digitize patient records, archive electronic files, protect them from disaster and then destroy outdated records.

C2C aims to control PST files 

C2C Systems Ltd. added PST Manager to its ArchiveOne family. PST Manager helps customers find, analyze, migrate and eliminate troublesome PST files with policy-based automation. It can be used alone or as part of ArchiveOne. PST Manager is also available in a free version to provide information on the amount of PSTs in a system.

Mezeo Software partners with CTERA for cloud storage

Mezeo Software Corp., a provider of cloud storage for service providers, added CTERA Networks Ltd. as a Mezeo Ready Solution Partner. Mezeo Ready service providers can offer CTERA's Cloud Attached Storage solution, which uses appliances on customer premises as cloud gateways for backup and remote access services managed via the CTERA Portal.

Archive Systems uses Isilon for file storage, disaster recovery 

Isilon Systems Inc. said Software as a Service (SaaS) vendor Archive Systems Inc. is using Isilon X-Series storage to consolidate its file data onto a single file system. Archive Systems also has an Isilon NL-Series cluster off-site for disaster recovery.

Virtual Instruments claims doubled revenues in first half of 2010

SAN monitoring vendor Virtual Instruments announced the following first-half 2010 highlights: a doubling of its revenue over the same period last year, the addition of JPS Health Network as a customer, John Thompson being named CEO, and signed distribution deals with Dell and Hitachi Data Systems.

Integrator wins storage contract with Sandia Labs 

Commercial Data Systems Inc. said it has been awarded a three-year contract with Sandia National Laboratories' Just in Time program to provide storage products from 3PAR, Brocade and NetApp to the defense lab.
