Brocade SAN gear certified for Oracle bundles; Dot Hill rolls out storage systems with solid state drives (SSDs); CommVault qualifies Permabit's archiving platform.

Oracle Corp. has qualified a group of storage bundles including Brocade Communications Systems Fibre Channel switches...

and host bus adapters (HBAs) that the vendors say will optimize Oracle database and application suites.

Brocade 300, 5100, and 5300 SAN switches, DCX backbones, and 815/825 HBAs have been qualified by Oracle with storage systems from EMC Corp., Hewlett-Packard, NetApp, and Sun Microsystems to optimize Oracle OLTP and date warehouse workloads. Brocade is also part of the new Oracle VM Storage Connect program.

Dot Hill Systems qualifies STEC solid state drives

Dot Hill Systems began shipping solid state disk (SSD) drives from STEC Inc. in its iSCSI, SAS and Fibre Channel arrays with 2.5-inch SAS drives.

Permabit Technology gets CommVault Simpana certification

Permabit Technology's Permabit Enterprise Archive has been certified with CommVault Simpana 8 software. As a member of the CommVault Partner Advantage program, CommVault will provide Permabit with new releases and software updates, as well as ongoing training and support to ensure continued compatibility of CommVault Simpana software with Permabit Enterprise Archive.

Tandberg Data is shipping LTO-4 half height Fibre Channel tape drives in its StorageLibrary family. Tandberg Data says the libraries can reach a throughput of 10.4 TB per hour in a 12U library.

Thecus Launches N8800PRO Rackmount NAS Serve

Thecus Technology Corp. launched its latest 2U rackmount NAS device, the N8800PRO. The N8800PRO is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor coupled with 4GB of DDR2 800 memory. The N8800PRO comes with an internal PCI-e slot that enables users to install a 10-Gigabit PCI-e NIC and comes equipped with eight 3.5-inch SATA disk bays for a maximum of 16TB of storage. Up to five N8800PROs can be attached and managed using one master device.

Data Robotics Raises $10 Million in Funding Round

Data Robotics Inc. closed $10 million in Series E financing to accelerate research and development and expand marketing of its Drobo SMB storage appliances. Focus Ventures led the funding round, with investors Greylock Partners, New Enterprise Associates (NEA), RRE Ventures, and Sutter Hill Ventures participating.

Mellanox Technologies said 40Gbps InfiniBand adapters and switches enable the fastest supercomputer in the China, the National University of Defense Technology's (NUDT)'s "TianHe" – Asia's first Petascale system.

InMage forms of Higher Education Recovery Advisory Council

InMage said it is forming the Higher Education Recovery Advisory Council (HERAC) to provide a forum for discussing best practices in data and application recovery. Sam David Haddad, consulting Professor of Engineering at Stanford University, will chair the council and it will include VP and CIO-level members from the University of California at Santa Cruz, the University of California at San Diego, California Polytechnic State University, Brigham Young University, and Utah State University.

South Jersey Healthcare standardizes on Mimosa archive

South Jersey Healthcare (SJH) in Vineland, N.J., has selected the Mimosa Systems NearPoint archiving solution for data protection and disaster recovery of email. SJH will use Mimosa's unified archiving as part of its strategy to facilitate HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) requirements.

Xiotech hired former EMC executive Jim McDonald as its chief strategy officer. McDonald worked with new Xiotech CEO Alan Atkinson at EMC and they two were founders of WysDM Software, which EMC acquired in 2008.
