Storage Clips: Tandberg to ship Symantec

The tape maker will include Backup Exec with several of its products; EqualLogic jumps on the R2 gravy train.

Tandberg to ship Symantec
Tandberg Data Corp. announced that it will begin shipping Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers QuickStart Edition backup and recovery software with selected versions of its StorageLoader, LTO tape drives and SLR tape drives.

EqualLogic announces support for R2
EqualLogic announced today that its PS Series storage arrays support the new Storage Manager for SANs in Microsoft's Windows Server 2003 R2. For more on R2 and its storage features, please see today's lead article, Microsoft fleshes out Storage Server upgrades.

FalconStor-led group launches DR services facility
FalconStor announced that it has teamed with Softbank IDC Corp. and Triangle Spirit to launch a disaster recovery (DR) services center in Japan as of January 2006. The facility, a DR outsourcing center targeting small and mid-sized businesses,and run by Softbank and Triangle Spirit, will use FalconStor's IPStor software and FalconStor's PrimeVault business model.

IBM announces German customer
IBM today announced that Schwenk Zement KG, a leading German manufacturer of cement and construction goods, has deployed IBM's TotalStorage DS8100. Schwenk Zement KG provides cement for houses, public buildings, blast furnaces, chimneys and nuclear power station cooling tower and currently processes more than 15 million transactions per day. Schwenk does business process handling on the IBM eServer z890 system running SAP R3 applications and an IBM DB2 Universal database. The server is connected to the IBM TotalStorage DS8100, which houses about 11 terabytes of data.

Xyratex, Digi-Data partner with Storage Elements
Integrator Storage Elements announced plans to sell a new line of bundled hardware, software and access controls called Digitiliti, based on a combination of Xyratex JBOD arrays and Digi-Data controllers.

GE subsidiary chooses Atempo
Atempo announced that Factofrance, a financial subsidiary of GE, has chosen its Time Navigator for its mission critical data.
