Storage Clips: HP expands storage partner program

HP unveiled a new marketing strategy to work the channel; HDS qualifies and certifies left and right.

HP expands partner program
Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) announced that it has expanded its Information Lifecycle Management Partner Program, claiming the new and improved version will offer more technical and marketing integration to channel partners. The new program offers three participation levels: Gold, Platinum and Elite Business Partner. HP works with partners in the program, including Princeton Softech, OpenText and ADIC, to provide customers with integrated products. In the same announcement, HP named a customer, Starz Entertainment Group, which deployed a bundled product from HP and ADIC.

Hitachi teams with McData, Microsoft, GlassHouse
Hitachi Data Systems Inc. (HDS) announced it has qualified McData Corp.'s Intrepid 10000 (i10K) directors for mainframes for use with its TagmaStore storage platforms in local FICON mainframe environments.

HDS also announced that it is the first Fibre Channel (FC) storage array vendor to achieve Microsoft's Simple SAN for Windows Server designation by successfully completing compatibility testing of the Hitachi TagmaStore Adaptable Modular Storage models AMS200 and AMS500, and Workgroup Modular Storage model WMS100.

Finally, HDS rounded out its announcements with a partnership with GlassHouse Technologies Inc., whereby the companies will offer business consulting and implementation services to customers in North America and the U.K.

OnStor and Asigra team on remote backups
NAS gateway maker OnStor Inc. and backup and recovery software maker Asigra announced a partnership to provide a compliance package for remote site backup. The product, a combination of OnStor's Bobcat series enterprise NAS gateways and Asigra's Televaulting for Enterprises software, consolidates and sends compressed backup data to a centralized location. There is no limit on the number of servers, desktops and laptops that can be protected. The package also includes AES 256-bit encryption of backup data in flight and at rest. The OnStor-Asigra bundle will be sold by common VAR channel partners in North America and Europe. Package pricing starts at $37,000.

NEC integrates Emulex
Emulex announced that NEC Corp. has integrated its InSpeed embedded storage switch into the newest models of NEC Storage S series line of midrange and entry-level storage hardware -- the S500, S1500 and S2500 models. NEC has incorporated Emulex's InSpeed SOC 422 to create a switched bunch of disks application.

Fujitsu launches nearline FC drives for Eternus
Fujitsu announced availability of nearline FC disk drives for its recently announced Eternus storage systems. With the new drives, which have a 500GB capacity, some systems will be expandable up to 500 terabytes. Systems with the new drives will be available on Dec. 22, 2005.

Cisco hosts IT career day for girls
High school girls in New York City will hear about IT career paths when Cisco hosts a conference for them this week intended to educate them on the possibilities for a career in IT through its Women's Action Network. It's the fourth event Cisco has hosted where students can gather to hear from experts in the IT field. They also can sign up to work with mentors to help them shape a career path.

Tacit announces customer upgrade
Tacit Networks today announced that Associated Merchandising Corp. (AMC), a global merchandising sourcing service, has upgraded from Tacit's wide-area file services (WAFS) product to Tacit's full line of WAN optimization and branch office IT products. With this latest deployment, AMC's corporate data center is now delivering e-mail, print, networking and management "stackable" services to branch offices, including China, Nicaragua, South Africa, India, Italy, Turkey, Egypt and the U.S.

Brocade announces WAFS agreement
Brocade announced an agreement with Nortel to develop software for Nortel's WAFS products for remote offices. The agreement expands an existing relationship between the companies and is expected to include development of technology based on the Brocade Tapestry line of software.

CoreVault finds reseller in Dallas
CoreVault announced that it has partnered with reseller ERG, a firm specializing in business management software and serving the Dallas area.

City of Georgetown goes for Revinetix
Revinetix announced that the city of Georgetown, Texas, has installed Revinetix's Sentio 4400 backup appliance with the city's network servers. The city made the move to Revinetix's disk-based product from a tape backup infrastructure.

Mobius integrates with Sun
Mobius Management Systems Inc. and Sun Microsystems announced the integration of Mobius' ViewDirect TCM data classification software with Sun's StorEdge 5310/5310C content-addressed archiving system.

SBE works channel for iSCSI software
SBE Inc. announced that it has signed manufacturer's representative agreements with Centaur, Fourfront Sales and PSI Solutions to promote and sell its PyX iSCSI products to its client base.
