Adaptec enters alliance to improve iSCSI; Iomega launches new external hard drive; Remote Backup Systems joins Rackspace.

Adaptec enters alliance to improve iSCSI
Adaptec Inc. announced that it has entered into an alliance with ServerEngines LLC., a startup company that develops I/O silicon, to enhance Adaptec's iSCSI features. The two companies plan to speed up time-to-market of 10 GB iSCSI, a a technology that some claim will have better performance than Fibre Channel SANs.

Under the alliance, ServerEngines will employ Adaptec engineers, license technology and acquire assets related to Adaptec's iSCSI and TCP/IP offload protocol engines. ServerEngines will then use its ASIC technology to make future versions of Adaptec iSCSI products.

Iomega launches new external hard drive
Iomega Corp. launched the Iomega External Hard Drive Silver Series, a Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0) external device that also includes Iomega Automatic Backup software designed for the home or small office. The new External Hard Drive Silver Series is available in capacities of 80 GB, 160 GB and 250 GB, and has 7,200 RPM performance and a plug-and-play installation.

Remote Backup joins Rackspace
Remote Backup Systems Inc., (RBS) manufacturer and distributor of RBackup Remote Backup software and Rackspace Managed Hosting announced a partnership to provide Remote Backup Systems' users with discounted hosting rates and a complimentary month of hosting at Rackspace facilities. Rackspace users will receive pricing concessions, incentives and discounts of up to 50% from retail prices on RBS's software.
