2004 Storage Products of the Year

The editors of and Storage Magazine have researched and judged the best storage products of 2004. Based on innovation, performance, integration, manageability, functionality and value, here are the winners.

Vendors and users alike are grappling with how to spread the benefits of storage networking beyond today's implementations. That means tackling WAN distribution problems, enabling greater consolidation, meeting lower cost points, simplifying complex environments, and improving manageability, data protection and availability. That's a long wish list, but this year's and Storage magazine's 2004 Storage Products of the Year winners largely meet many of those goals.

As in past years (2002, 2003) the 2004 Products of the Year awards vividly reflect the innovation in our industry. Each of the winning products solves real-world problems and makes your company's data more secure and accessible. And this year's awards prove that larger, older and more established companies don't have a monopoly on innovation.

As always, entrants are judged on six criteria:

  • Innovation
  • Performance
  • Ease of integration into existing environments
  • Manageability
  • Functionality
  • Value

More than 200 submissions were scrutinized, and the best of that group were judged by a panel of independent experts, storage managers and editors. Products were scored on all of the previously mentioned criteria. Some of the winners were highly innovative; some set new benchmarks for value or another attribute; and some just had a great combination of several qualities. But all represent a new state of the art for storage products.
