Daily compilation of storage news:

NetApp certifies Atempo with SnapLock
Network Appliance Inc. has certified Atempo's Time Navigator data protection software for its SnapLock Compliance and SnapLock Enterprise products. NetApp SnapLock enables companies to comply with regulatory requirements by allowing the creation of nonrewritable, nonerasable write-once-read-many volumes on NetApp NearStore and FAS storage systems. This prevents critical files from being altered or deleted until a specified retention date. Atempo's Time Navigator software delivers fast restores for heterogeneous enterprise environments, addressing challenges that include disaster recovery, compliance, security and rapid data growth.

Arkeia offers hot backup plug-in for PostgreSQL databases
Arkeia Corp., a provider of enterprise backup products, announced the release of a new plug-in for hot backup of PostgreSQL databases. The new hot backup plug-in is compatible with the company's Network Backup software as well as Arkeia Server Backup. It allows Arkeia backup products to protect the database without interrupting PostgreSQL services.

U.S. Census Bureau revamps research facility with 3PAR
3PAR announced the purchase and production deployment of its InServ Storage Server by the Center for Economic Studies, a division of the U.S. Census Bureau. The Census Bureau could not scale its SAS-based data warehouse to add new data or additional remote users. By selecting a modular Linux-based server solution and 3PAR utility storage, the Census Bureau has been able to scale its centralized data environment by three times -- to 35 terabytes. It has also been able to reduce storage administration by 95%, freeing valuable time.

Local storage integrator CorData suggested Nexsan's ATABeast to solve these requirements.

NetApp deemed good for the environment
Network Appliance Inc. announced that it has received International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 Environmental Management System Certification. ISO 14001 is a management system that helps companies develop and execute a policy that ultimately reduces harmful effects on the environment.
