Emulex announces Fibre Channel switch-on-a-chip
Emulex Corp. has announced its FibreSpy SOC 804 family of embedded storage switches. FibreSpy is a modular, 4Gbps embedded Fibre Channel switch that provides storage OEMs with the ability to mix thousands of drives of different speeds within the same system. Emulex claims it has landed one major OEM that is implanting the chip in a tiered storage architecture.

CommVault supports Windows Server 2003
CommVault Systems Inc. is shipping QiNetix Second Generation, a new product release built on the Microsoft Windows Server 2003. The software suite provides faster backup and recovery and enhanced data protection utilizing recent advances in Microsoft technology.

StorageTek touts healthcare wins
Novant Health Corp. of Charlotte and Winston-Salem, N.C., claims that its StorageTek environment is saving the company $2.1 million per year that would have been spent on film for image storage. Other StorageTek users in the field include Greenville Hospital System and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. StorageTek's press release comes a week or so after EMC announced a partnership with GE Healthcare. The two companies are packaging EMC storage with a PACS (Picture Archive Communication Systems) system.

PolyServe offers Oracle database clustering on Linux
PolyServe Inc. has announced its Oracle High Availability (HA) Solution for Linux providing clusters of single-system Oracle 9i and 10g databases on Linux. The company said this will be a crucial requirement for data centers weighing the move from Unix to Linux.
