VMTurbo Inc. Operations Manager 4.7

Judges were pleased with the extended support and granular management capabilities of VMTurbo's Operations Manager 4.7.

Gold winner in the Storage magazine/SearchStorage.com 2014 Products of the Year Storage Management Tools category.

VMTurbo Operations Manager is a resource management tool for virtual environments, and version 4.7 adds customizable options and wider platform support. Judges agreed -- this was a strong update from VMTurbo Inc. to an already useful product.

Operations Manager software is packaged as a virtual appliance and provides real-time views into performance and utilization. A Storage Control Module add-on extends those metrics from the virtualization layer to the storage layer. The metrics are then used to make recommendations for data placement that provide top performance and operational conditions.

One of the most important updates is additional platform support. The software now supports OpenStack and KVM, in addition to existing support for Citrix, Hyper-V, Red Hat and VMware, making the product compatible with any virtualized environment. EMC VNX support was added to the Storage Control Module, a significant addition as only NetApp filers were supported in the previous version.

VMTurbo's Operations Manager also focused on refined and customizable management. Users can manage storage more granularly as a result of this update. Resource pools now look like virtual data centers to the Operations Manager software so that pools can be adjusted in real-time as resource needs change. Intelligent planning with reservations is another new feature, allowing managers to reserve capacity for future workloads.

Judges rated VMTurbo Operations Manager highest for innovation and ease of use and manageability. Judges also concurred that it is a useful tool for managing capacity and resource allocation. While they agreed greater hardware support would be beneficial, one judge noted that version 4.7 was "a major release with substantial innovation."
