Quick reaction to changes by VMware has company adding sought-after features to its virtual machine backup products
Vendor: Veeam Software
Category: Backup for virtual machines
Product: Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam ONE
Why it makes our list: One of the best at solving a problem -- data protection in virtual environments -- that everybody seems to have
Veeam Software benefited from the way VMware changed the way organizations need to do backups and manage storage, as well as the slow response of traditional data storage vendors to address those changes. Veaam Backup & Replication launched in 2008, and has done a good job of quickly reacting to changes VMware has made to its products. Veeam ONE followed in 2010, adding VMware management features such as monitoring, capacity planning, change management, reporting and chargeback. The self-funded vendor competes mostly with Quest Software Inc.’s vRanger and PHD Virtual Technologies’ Virtual Backup applications, but the larger backup vendors are quickly addressing VMware backup as well.
