IFCP and FCIP

What is the difference between iFCP and FCIP? FCIP is an encapsulation or tunneling protocol that does not interpret FC functions, but forwards FC traffic over a TCP/IP network. It fits the mold of the "I don't know nothin' I'm just doing my job" network function. FCIP is a way to direct traffic from one SAN to another. iFCP looks at performing fabric functions just like a FC switch does -- but provides this capability in a TCP/IP environment. In other words, iFCP incorporates all the basic switch functions that standard FC switches do, but has the ability to perform fabric management functions over TCP/IP networks with other iFCP compatible network devices. These could potentially include iFCP compatible NICs. Regards, Marc Farley
