Free for the Taking

An I/O profiling utility for Windows and Unix environments, io_profile, is available for download from storage resource management software vendor TeraCloud. According to Bill Pierce, TeraCloud's director of engineering, io_profile helps answer the question, "What is the aggregate performance of this whole I/O stack from an application's perspective?" to help troubleshoot or tune a storage environment. TeraCloud also offers a free download of fcping--the Fibre Channel equivalent to the IP world's ping. fcping is used to determine the basic connectivity between two Fibre Channel points, as well as monitor and measure network latency. Both io_profile and fcping are available as source under the GNU Public Library, and as binaries for Windows, Solaris and Linux. To download the utilities, you must supply your contact information.
