Data storage systems: 2014 Products of the Year finalists

Last updated:January 2015

Editor's note

For the 12th year in a row, Storage magazine and present the Products of the Year awards. For the 2014 competition, we've narrowed the field of data storage systems entrants to 55 finalists.

As always, we invited technology vendors to nominate products for our Products of the Year awards, which recognize newly introduced or upgraded storage products. As in previous years, categories included backup and disaster recovery software and services, backup hardware, storage management tools and storage system software. However, to reflect the changing data storage systems market, we split the storage hardware category into two parts: all-flash systems and disk/hybrid systems. This gave us a grand total of six categories.

Our Products of the Year competition is different from "Readers' Choice" or other top product contests. We focus specifically on the past year, so a seasoned vet with a well-regarded heritage may get caught half-stepping when compared to lesser-known product. In other words, the pursuit of a Gold, Silver or Bronze award, respectively, is based largely on a "what have you done for me lately" perspective.

This year's crop of finalists was judged by a panel of users, analysts, consultants, and Storage magazine and editors. Ratings are based on innovation, performance, ease of integration, ease of use, functionality and value.

Congratulations to all our finalists. Click on the 2014 Storage magazine/ Products of the Year categories listed below to read about the product finalists we believe are delivering the goods when it comes to storage technology today.

The results will be published in the February issue of Storage magazine and online.
