MLC SSD reliability concerns

Dennis Martin, president of Demartek, discusses MLC SSD reliability concerns in this Expert Response.

Is MLC SSD reliability still a question mark?

MLC SSD reliability is a function of the type of flash controller used in those SSDs. Although the lifespan of MLC flash cells is limited, today’s flash controllers are making great strides in improving the reliability of MLC by managing the flash media using advanced error correction code (ECC), wear-leveling algorithms and over-provisioning of flash media. Users must still use direct certain workloads to appropriate grades of flash memory.
