With so many HA products out there, it's difficult to compare and contrast all the different vendors and their products' features? Are there any good reference places to look up charts/tables which lay out or review the major HA products such as comparing Veritas with SpeedEye and Legato, etc.?
Great question. What you are looking for is a consumer reports for high availability and clustering products. Some of the industry analysts have done work in this area. You might try to contact Gartner or Meta Group and see what they have to say.
It is interesting to note that even though there are over 30,000 news groups on USENET, there is not a single one dedicated to high availability. If there were, it might be an excellent source for this sort of information.
