Storage systems require that packets are delivered in the correct order. Ethernet traditionally allowed packets to be discarded when traffic is heavy and that can result in packets arriving out of order.
Data Center Bridging has introduced the functions of Priority Flow Control, Congestion Notification, and Enhanced Transmission Selection to allow storage I/O protocols to be used over Ethernet.
