Storage at the edge of the enterprise, whether at the departmental level or remote office, is often an organization's fastest growing segment. Consolidating that storage into an existing Fibre Channel is many times the solution, however the traditional solution can be too costly and too complex for many companies to consider. But now there is an alternative--learning how existing Ethernet infrastructure can be used to connect workgroup SANs to the core Fibre Channel SAN. This paper introduces an innovative way to entend SANs, encompassing isolated storage without requiring costly networking technologies.
