About the White Paper:
Preston examines the challenges and new strategies with today's backup and recovery. He compares tradeoffs between tape and disk, and introduces a new concept – D2D with a little tape, using MAID architecture.
He discusses the concept of disk to disk with minimal tape requirements where all data stays online protected in a RAID array, and tape is used strictly for off-site requirements. He also discusses trade-offs between D2D2t and D2D2T.
He introduces COPAN Systems' product, based on MAID architecture and a VTL personality, the first disk-based long-term storage subsystem that combines access, protection, and performance of disk with cost and scale of tape.
