storage networks to backup and restore large volumes of data. The event, called "Easing Backup Pain: A Backup & Restore Workshop," is organized by 30 SNIA companies and will be held Feb. 26-27 at the SNIA Technology Center in Colorado Springs. SearchStorage.com is a media sponsor.
According to SNIA, the event's 30 or so sessions are divided into three tracks. A business track is aimed at the needs of CIOs, directors, managers, or anyone who has budget responsibility for backup/restore solutions within their organization. A technical track is designed for CTOs, systems administrators, consultants, architects, analysts, and others with backup and recovery implementation responsibility. Finally, a cross-functional track provides a one-size-fits-all version of the program for organizations that are only able to send one attendee to the workshop.
Attendees can also sign up for hour-long consulting sessions with storage services consultants. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to tour the SNIA Technology Center's state-of-the-art labs and view multiple demonstrations of backup and restore solutions with a minimum data backup rate of 1 terabyte per hour.
Speakers include W. Curtis Preston, president of The Storage Group and author of "UNIX Backup & Recovery" and "Using SANs & NAS" and Todd Pekats, director of consulting of Neartek Inc., who will present a case study on how two financial institutions with contrasting backup and restore strategies fared after September 11th.
The fee to attend the workshop is $495 per attendee. More information is available at www.snia.org/backup-workshop, or by calling 719.884.8910.
