Product tip -- EMC (Brocade) switch recover

If you have several switches in your SAN, one can recover quickly if another one is down. By installing a new switch and configuring it, it will take only a few moments to configure by using expect. I have an expect script that logs into the switch, does a configUpload, saves the report back to my PC; for every switch in the SAN. Then that file can be used in another expect script to do a configDownload to the new/replaced switch. You're back up and running fast!

Here is a simple expect script; loops through many switches. Don't get hung up on the "exact" portions of the script. Expect generated part of the code from "autoexpect".

Code: #!/opt/expect/bin/expect
# define list elements
#loop thru each switch in the list and get output file for each.
foreach {switch} {switch_1 switch_2 switch_3 switch_4} {
#
set timeout -1
spawn telnet $switch
match_max 100000
expect "login: "
