SAN performance: Five tips in five minutes

Storage area networks (SANs) are complicated, and how crucial SAN components are configured affects SAN performance. It seems as if many shops are currently trying to figure out ways to squeeze some more performance out of their SANs.

"People may have implemented SANs and storage and now want to tune or get better performance," says Greg Schulz, founder and senior analyst of StorageIO. "Or the initial systems they deployed may have been under-configured or outgrown." According to Schulz, there are other factors that may explain this spike of interest in performance tuning.
