Storage Management Tools
DataCore Software Corp. SANsymphony 7.0
DataCore Software's SANsymphony 7.0 software-based storage virtualization added non-stop high availability (HA) to allow users to do maintenance, upgrades and expansion, and to cope with system failures in their storage infrastructure without disruption to applications.
Storage virtualization products such as SANsymphony create an abstraction layer that allows the user to view and manage multiple storage systems as a single pool.
In addition to HA, the latest edition of SANsymphony features support for Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), advanced site recovery (ASR) to enable an IT organization to failover physical and virtual servers to multiple remote and branch offices, 64-bit "mega caches" to boost SAN-wide performance and efficient space reclamation for thinly provisioned storage.
"Very mature product" that provides "good value for customers," one judge commented.
"A lot of functionality for a low cost point," another of our panelists added.
Pricing for SANsymphony starts at $20,000 per node. DataCore's value-added resellers (VARs) typically license the product as part of a proposal that combines hardware and integration services. Licensing takes into account the disk capacity being virtualized and the scale of the customer's storage infrastructure.
SANsymphony 7.0 runs on standard x86 and x64 physical or virtual Windows servers. The product works with Citrix Systems Inc.'s XenServer, Microsoft Corp.'s Hyper-V and VMware Inc.'s vSphere virtualization software, as well as Intel/AMD-based hardware servers and blades.
