McData releases security assessment tool
McData Corp. announced the release of SANscope, a security self-assessment tool. With the new tool, users receive a report showing their overall network security. The tool also provides security assessments concerning access control, management and authentication. The report provides recommendations to improve security in the areas that are identified as susceptible to breaches.

Other security offerings by McData include SANtegrity Security Solution, a combination of professional services and software for storage networks and Security Architecture Services, a professional services offering.

Acopia joins NetApp Partner Program
Acopia announced that it has joined the Network Appliance Inc. (NetApp) Partner Program and will integrate its ARX file virtualization switches with NetApp storage systems.

BakBone pieces together software
BakBone Software announced the availability of NetVault Report Manager, a storage reporting and analysis tool with integrated monitoring for single or multi-server environments. The software will be integrated with BakBone's NetVault backup and disaster recovery software as part of a continuing series of announcements based on BakBone's Integrated Data Protection strategy. Report Manager is available now for Windows 2000, 2003 and XP Professional server operating environments. Pricing per supported server starts at $495 for NetVault Report Manager for Backup and $278 for NetVault Report Manager for Disk Space. NetVault 7.x workgroup package begins at $1,195 for x86-based systems and $1,595 for x86-64-based operating systems. Customers can license modules separately or deploy them together.

Nexsan VP elected by SNIA
Nexsan announced that Brendan Kinkade, the company's vice president of marketing, has been elected to a two-year term on the Storage Networking Industry Association's (SNIA) Data Management Forum board of directors where he will serve as the chair of the group's Speaker's Bureau responsible for participation in conferences and events.
