MCI launches storage service
MCI Inc. introduced a new storage service for customers of its Enterprise Hosting Services: Utility Storage Service, in which MCI will provision its Fibre Channel (FC) SAN for enterprise customers. Customers can buy storage as they need it; consolidate their storage across multiple platforms; view their storage though an online portal that shows attached servers, volumes, and utilization; and add, move and delete storage capacity. Additionally, customers are alerted when their capacity threshold is reached, allowing them to request additional storage space. MCI manages the shared infrastructure using products from 3Par Data Inc. and AppIQ Inc, and provides back-end capacity management and planning, including SAN discovery and path management; performance and event management; monitoring and file-system level storage resource management.
Emulex provides embedded switch to HP
Emulex Corp. will provide Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) with a customized version of its InSpeed Model 350 embedded storage switch for the next generation of the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) product line -- the HP StorageWorks EVA8000, EVA6000 and EVA4000. Emulex's switch was also designed into prior versions of StorageWorks products.
EqualLogic partners with Western Scientific
Component maker EqualLogic Inc. announced that integrator Western Scientific Inc. will include its PS Series arrays into its high-performance computing and storage products. Western Scientific provides computing clusters, data storage, workstations and networking products to its customers.
Realtech uses FalconStor
SAP consultancy Realtech has chosen FalconStor Software Inc.'s virtual tape library (VTL) to back up its Microsoft Exchange, SQL, Oracle and SAP applications. The installation was performed by FalconStor channel partner ELD Datentechnik. The VTL is connected to Realtech's FC SAN, an Infortrend EonStar A16F device and its existing backup application, HP's DataProtector 5.5. using two Brocade Silkworm 2250 switches over FC. FalconStor's VTL software is emulating a StorageTek L180 with six LTO-2 drives and 90 slots.
Japanese e-commerce company uses Intransa
Japanese e-commerce software developer Softcreate Corp. has selected Intransa Inc. as its IP SAN provider, the companies announced. Intransa's IP SAN uses the company's existing Ethernet infrastructure and is based on its IP SAN IntraStor platform and StorControl management software.
Engenio certifies Brocade
Engenio Information Technologies Inc. announced that the Brocade Communications Systems Inc. SilkWorm 200E 4 Gbps FC switch has been certified compatible with all models of Engenio FC storage arrays, including the latest 6998 4 Gbps array. The SilkWorm 200E combines auto-sensing 1 Gbps, 2 Gbps and 4 Gbps FC throughput and comes in 8-, 12- or 16-port configurations.
EMag joins EMC Select Program
Discovery softeware startup eMag Solutions LLC announced that its MediaMerge/Tape Management System software available through EMC Corp.'s EMC Select Program. The software can migrate data from legacy backup software to EMC Legato NetWorker.
NeoPath named NetApp partner
Network file management startup NeoPath Networks Inc. announced that it has been named a member of the Network Appliance Inc. (NetApp) Partner Program, meaning its FD-220 File Director product line software will be integrated with NetApp storage products and sold through NetApp's channels.
