HP might lay off up to15,000
Standard & Poor's Equity Research maintained a "hold" rating on Hewlett-Packard Co. stock after a report that it is expected to make a major restructuring announcement on Tuesday. S&P Equity Research said it believes the announcement could involve 15,000 layoffs.
Cisco sets new rules for board members
Cisco Systems Inc. said today it has adopted a policy that would bar anyone over the age of 70 from joining its board. The policy was adopted at a regularly scheduled board meeting, upon recommendation of the board's Nomination and Governance Committee. Based on the new policy, Vice Chairman Donald T. Valentine and board member James F. Gibbons will not be eligible for renomination for Cisco's 2005 Annual Meeting of Shareholders in November 2005. Both directors intend to remain on the board through the date of the Annual Meeting, and Cisco expects to reduce the number of authorized directors from 13 to 11 at that time. In the case of the current chairman, John Morgridge, 71, the policy will take effect for nominations for the 2006 annual meeting.
FlashDisk storage qualified on Red Hat
Winchester Systems Inc. has announced support of its FlashDisk storage products for use with Red Hat Enterprise Linux v.4 Update 1. The company said a combined product will support the creation of file sizes up to an 8 terabytes (TB) on standard RHEL v4.1 ext3 file systems and up to 64 TBs with Red Hat's Global File System and 64-bit systems.
Diskeeper up as data volume grows
Defragmentation software maker Diskeeper Corp., announced its highest ever second quarter of volume license sales yesterday, claiming it was a reflection of a new high-capacity storage environment where fragmentation is more of an issue than ever.
XOsoft reports 70 new partners
XOsoft today announced that 70 new resellers, integrators and managed service providers have agreed to resell, implement or host its products in the first half of 2005. Among the recent additions to XOsoft's channel program are The Harding Group, STL Smartways Technology, Cambridge Computer, Amerivault and ServePath.
