BakBone introduces backup encryption software
BakBone Software Inc. announced the release today of automated backup encryption software. NetVault Encryption Application Plug-in Module does not require additional hardware and integrates with different networked storage topologies. The new offering encrypts data at the source level (database, file server or desktop) using the CAST 128 encryption algorithm.

FalconStor to support SQL
FalconStor Software Inc. announced that its IPStor Enterprise Edition software supports the, as yet unreleased, Microsoft SQL Server 2005. IPStor includes backup and recovery services via application-aware and client-based snapshot agent technology specifically developed for SQL Server.

Promise unveils SATA products
Promise Technology Inc. has announced six new 3 Gbps SATA RAID storage systems. The Promise VTrak M-Class line of products offer dualhost ports and 8, 12 or 15 hot-swappable drive bays in a rack-mount chassis, supporting up to 7.5 terabytes with 15 drives. It also includes data protection features, such as Predictive Data Migration; PerfectRAID and multiple assignment of RAID levels to selected LUNs.

Permabit and QStar partner for DR
QStar Technologies Inc.'s Data Director software will be added to Permabit Inc.'s Permeon Compliance Store software for disaster recovery purposes. The combined system will offer real-time synchronous mirroring, allowing users to write archive data to both tape and a system-independent disk format. The joint offering also provides hot standby capabilities, a transaction logging cache, event-based mirroring, automatic resynchronization of data and load balancing.

Exabyte announces trade-up promotion
Customers who purchase VXA-2 Packet Tape Drives, VXA-2 PacketLoaders or Magnum 1x7 LTO Autoloaders from Exabyte Corp. beginning today through Sept. 30, will receive a free trade-up kit and automatically entered into a World Series sweepstakes.

Intransa appoints new CEO
IP SAN maker Intransa Inc. announced the appointment of Tom Alexander as president and CEO. Alexander comes to Intransa from U.S. Venture Partners where he served as an entrepreneur-in-residence. Prior to that he served as president and co-founder of LuxN in the optical metro networking market, where he led the merger of LuxN with Sorrento Networks Corp.
