If this is the first time you are asking yourself, "What do I need to backup?" -- Backup School is for you. If you are implementing your first backup software or hardware and need implementation or migration help -- Backup School is for you. If you need to know what the benefits are of disk-based backup, tape or how to cost-justify your backup plans to your boss -- Backup School is for you. But, unlike advanced college courseware, you can forget about taking out a second mortgage or waking up early for a final exam. Heading back to our school for an advanced backup degree is free and available at anytime.

The curriculum:
Backup School is a series of nine short webcast lessons that mirror the chapters in Dorian Cougias's book, "The Backup Book". After exposing pupils to the fundamentals of backup, each lesson gets progressively more advanced -- touching on RAID, recovery and the most effective techniques for managing compliant backups today.

The professor:
Aside from being an author and a SearchStorage.com backup expert Dorian Cougias is President and CEO, Network Frontiers LLC.

What you'll walk away with:
Roughly each week, we'll release a new lesson from Dorian. Along with the audio class, you'll be able to download a companion worksheet to help you take notes. After each series of lessons, we'll see how well you were really paying attention by testing your knowledge of backup and backup architecture.

This isn't just for newbies:
While some of the early chapters may be a rehash for some of you -- the curriculum does get considerably more advanced. (And, hey, we can all benefit from refreshers of the fundamentals, anyways.) The later lessons cover advanced backup methodology, point-in-time copies, how to restore faster, open file backup for databases, multiple backup servers and organizational network backups.

Don't be late to class:
The first chapter of Backup School is available right now. Click here for a full listing of lessons.
