Cisco mops up Andiamo acquisition

San Jose, Calif.-based Cisco Systems Inc. has completed the acquisition of privately held Andiamo Systems Inc. Cisco announced the definitive agreement to acquire Andiamo last August with a desire to gobble up Andiamo's intelligent storage switching products for the SAN market.

Cisco's CEO John Chambers said in a statement that the integration of Andiamo marks Cisco's continued commitment to delivering leading SAN and data networking technologies and intelligent network services, combined with storage services from Cisco and its storage partners.

As of today, shares of Cisco common stock have been exchanged for all outstanding shares and options of Andiamo not already owned by Cisco. The purchase price paid to Andiamo was approximately $750 million net of Cisco's ownership, the company said.

The 317 employees of Andiamo will join Cisco's Internet Switching Business Unit led by Luca Cafiero. Buck Gee, former CEO of Andiamo, will drive integration efforts and head on-going operations.

Spinnaker CEO says acquisition by NetApp is complete

Network Appliance Inc. (NetApp), Sunnyvale, Calif., announced Friday that it has officially completed its acquisition of distributed NAS and clustering specialist Spinnaker Networks. In a note to users, Ron Bianchini, former CEO of Spinnaker and now the vice president of NetApp's Scalable Business Unit, thanked his customers, partners and suppliers for making the merger with NetApp happen. Keep an eye on the front door because, according to Bianchini, NetApp will be visiting its customers within the next few weeks to discuss support for existing SpinServer distributed NAS products and a roadmap for future NetApp "grid storage" products based on Spinnaker's technology.

ZANTAZ buys e-mail management vendor

ZANTAZ Inc. has acquired EDUCOM TS Inc., a maker of e-mail storage management software. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

According to ZANTAZ, organizations worldwide that rely on Microsoft Exchange Server use EDUCOM technology for intelligent management of email storage. EDUCOM's flagship product, Exchange Archive Solution (EAS), can manage e-mail records across geographically dispersed locations. EAS provides centrally managed and administered control of email policies while still allowing for regional dependencies and administration of messages. By moving email storage outside the Microsoft Exchange environment, companies can realize storage savings as high as 80%. Backup and recovery time is also shortened, as is migration to newer versions of Microsoft Exchange, according to ZANTAZ.

ZANTAZ plans to take advantage of EDUCOM's network of about 70 distributors and resellers and use them to expand its sales internationally. EDUCOM will continue operating in Ottawa as ZANTAZ Canada.
