EMC jumps on NAS gateway bandwagon |

EMC Corp. has a pair of new NAS models up its sleeve. The Hopkinton, Mass.-based company announced two new versions of its Celerra NAS system Monday in an effort to capitalize on the popularity of NAS gateway deployments.
The new NS700G NAS gateway allows users to integrate enterprise NAS functionality into existing Clariion CX and Symmetrix storage environments while the Celerra NS700 Integrated NAS system offers an upgrade path to a NAS gateway configuration.
EMC said the NS700 and NS700G are available in single or dual data-mover configurations and support both Fibre Channel and ATA disk drives for tiered storage environments.
The new Celerra systems feature Web-based management software and provide support for Microsoft Windows 2003 environments.
Also new to Celerra is a set of replication enhancements. The new Celerra Replicator features enables data recovery at extended distances. NAS users can choose between NAS-based Celerra Replicator or EMC's SRDF family of business continuity products to meet their requirements, according to EMC.
Peter Gerr, research analyst, Enterprise Storage Group Inc., Milford, Mass., said the new Celerra filer and gateway are worthy of note, and "match up nicely" with IBM's recently announced NAS Gateway 500.
