Finisar Corp., a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based provider of SAN and LAN Performance tools, introduced a new family of analysis and monitoring products. The first version of the Xgig product for Fibre Channel and Ethernet-based networks was the BERT (Bit Error Rate Tester). Now adding to the series of the Xgig suite is a distributed, blade-based analysis architecture for 1G-bit and 2 G-bit Fibre Channel and FCIP Storage Area Networks. This blade-based platform delivers support for full-duplex gigabit links while monitoring, validating and assisting with quick resolution of network infrastructure operations, providing effective instrumentation and reducing mean time to resolution, the company said. Finisar touts the Xgig solution as a solution to operational inefficiency by streamlining resolution of events that cause performance problems and enables customers to design, implement, test and evaluate Storage Area Networks (SANs) and their components. The Xgig Analyzer automates analysis of captured traces for errant behaviors and provides extensive performance analysis capabilities; getting quickly to the root of performance issues.

New DR on the cheap

UltraBac Software, Bellevue, Wash., announced the release of UltraBac Disaster Recovery (UBDR) Pro. UBDR Pro uses snapshot disk imaging technology to backup servers and workstations, enabling the recovery of an unbootable machine, the company said. After installation, UBDR Pro uses a "lights out" scheduler to backup snapshot images of selected partitions to tape, disk, or any UNC path. A built-in locked file backup agent ensures all files are backed up so they can be restored safely when required. UBDR Pro is optimized to only back up active disk clusters while ignoring non-pertinent page files and hibernation data. The backup image file is compressed on the client side before being transferred to a network storage location, further reducing traffic and saving storage space. UBDR Pro is shipping now. Pricing for the stand-alone version of UBDR Pro is $695 per server with discounts being offered based on the total number of licenses purchased.
