Tacit Networks hails new chief

Tacit Networks Inc., South Plainfield, N.J., announced the appointment of Greg R. Grodhaus as the new president and chief executive officer of the company. Grodhaus, a 30-year IT veteran, has served as a senior executive for companies in the storage, server and communication networking segments, Tacit said. Tacit's chairman Tim Williams served as interim CEO to lead its funding and product launch. With the funding and product launch successfully completed, the company said Williams will now resume his duties as chairman. Grodhaus' previous positions include CEO of Inrange Technologies, CEO of IPL Systems, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Fujitsu Ltd, and vice president and general manager of midrange and large storage businesses at MemorexTelex.

Fibre Channel gets a speed boost

Several companies including Agilent Technologies, FalconStor Software, Fujitsu, JNI and Seagate have joined QLogic Corp., Aliso Viejo, Calif., in an industry push to develop 10 G-bit and 4 G-bit products for SANs, following the Fibre Channel Industry Association's (FCIA) vote to extend 4 G-bit Fibre Channel from an "inside the box" storage device interconnect into switched SAN fabrics. QLogic said 4 G-bit products from these vendors will double current Fibre Channel performance at about the same price as 2Gb Fibre Channel, while maintaining backward-compatibility with existing networks and storage.

Snap picks services partner

Snap Appliance Inc., San Jose, Calif., has picked its partner for managed storage services. Snap chose NCR Corp. to provide its managed services offering, including help desk and maintenance services, to Snap's installed base of more than 130,000 units. The partnership will span North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Snap said customers will have access to a help desk, global parts depot and on-site maintenance support.

Nexsan gets "channel friendly"

Nexsan Technologies Inc., Woodland Hills, Calif., announced its Strategic Solutions (S2) Program that will provide sales and marketing benefits to its partners and result in further product development for Nexsan's network of solution providers. Nexsan said software and hardware manufacturers that complete the S2 process will receive special pricing on the Nexsan products to be integrated into their solution, referrals to channel partners, co-marketing opportunities, a product listing on the Nexsan web site and cooperatively produced white papers and collaterals. Total solutions will carry a "Nexsan certified" designation and be included in the Nexsan's award-winning family of products, the company said.

Storability score IBM compatibility

Storability Software Inc.'s Global Storage Manager software now fully supports IBM's TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server (ESS) systems, Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) backup systems and has achieved IBM TotalStorage Proven certification. Southborough, Mass.-based Storability said Global Storage Manager is open-standards based software that manages all components within multi-vendor, multi-site storage environment, including SAN, NAS, and direct-attached primary storage, secondary and archive backup systems, and applications, including databases.
