OuterBay releases ADM software
OuterBay Technologies Inc., Campbell, Calif., announced the general availability of its Application Data Management (ADM) Suite, software that monitors and manages data growth to maintain application performance and speed upgrades. The suite is made up of the Application Resource Manager (ARM), Instance Generator and LiveArchive. According to OuterBay, Instance Generator eliminates full-size production database copies, in favor of smaller subsets of the database. LiveArchive improves application performance and reduces the downtime needed for worldwide consolidations and upgrades by managing application data growth. LiveArchive works by identifying inactive application data and moving it onto more cost effective storage where it remains online and accessible to users from their existing application user interface. LiveArchive, the software engine behind OuterBay's Application Data Management Suite, has been commercially available since April 2000.

MTI buddies-up with Brocade
MTI Technology Corp. has joined the Brocade Qualified Support Partner (QSP) program. The Brocade QSP program is designed to help companies migrate from direct-attached to networked storage by training and authorizing services partners to service and support Brocade products. MTI, headquartered in Anaheim, Calif., has been authorized to deliver SAN Environment Support. MTI now serves as a single point of contact for multi-vendor SAN infrastructure support to Brocade customers worldwide. MTI is also a Brocade OEM partner and participates in Brocade's Fabric Aware, Fabric Threads and Professional Services Provider (PSP) programs.

Sanbolic and LSI certify
Watertown, Mass.-based Sanbolic Inc., a developer and manufacturer of file system software and LSI Logic Systems Inc., Milpitas, Calif., signed a deal for joint product certification of Sanbolic's Melio FS file system and Kayo volume sharing software with LSI Logic's Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs). The companies said the alliance provides a framework for SAN interoperability, performance and scalability enhancements for media-rich applications in clustered environments. Melio FS is a file system that is expected to be initially used in large file applications for shared or clustered environments. Kayo 3.0 is Sanbolic's volume sharing software for workgroup size shared storage environments. Kayo 3.0 uses a technology where all users have equal rights to access the data on the shared storage, using volume locks to regulate who has write and read access.

Maranti sets up new tech team
Maranti Networks Inc., a San Jose, Calif., company that makes "application-aware" storage networking products has a new techie at the helm. The company announced the appointment of James Kuenzel, former vice president of engineering at McData Corp., to the position of vice president of engineering at Maranti, and also announced the promotion of former vice president of software engineering, Santosh Lolayekar, to the company's chief technology officer (CTO) position. At McData, Kuenzel was responsible for development for SAN switch development. In his new position at Maranti, Kuenzel is responsible for managing the overall engineering development effort — including the hardware, software, and product assurance functions — supporting Maranti's plans for product availability in 2003. In his new CTO role, Lolayekar is responsible for managing the company's overall technology roadmap, driving the product architecture, and working with Maranti's partners and customers.
