LightSand and StoreAge push data over distances

LightSand Communications, Milpitas, Calif., a developer of wide area storage networks and StoreAge Networking Technologies Inc., Irvine, Calif., a SAN management specialist announced a partnership that provides customers with high-speed wide area data movement between multi-vendor storage devices. The combined solution enables customers to centrally manage the replication, migration, consolidation and backup of data across unlike storage devices in geographically separate locations, the companies said. StoreAge's SVM (Storage Virtualization Manager) is an asymmetric SAN appliance that provides virtual volume management and uniform data replication services across a SAN. The LightSand S-600 and S-2500 Storage Extension Gateways allow organizations to move data as fast as 2.5 G Bits/sec over thousands of kilometers. Both the StoreAge SVM and the LightSand S-600 and S-2500 products are available now.

LSI TAS Server certified by Rational

LSI Logic Storage Systems Inc., Milpitas, Calif., announced that its TotalNET Advanced Server (TAS) 7.0 has been certified by Rational Software Corp., Cupertino, Calif., as a supported interoperability solution for Rational ClearCase. TAS 7.0, the only SMB solution to provide Kerberos-enabled Active Directory support, includes a new framework interface to simplify and expedite the configuration of a ClearCase service. This interface automatically configures necessary ClearCase service attributes and eliminates command line configuration of the service. A Unix server running both TAS and ClearCase enables programmers to share code across NT and Unix platforms.

QLogic puts remote management on a chip

QLogic Corp., Aliso Viejo, Calif., debuted a line of Remote Management Controllers (RMCs) that integrate the capabilities of remote management cards into a single chip. Targeted at the market for rack optimized servers and bladed servers without PCI slots, the ultra-compact single chip RMCs enable system administrators to turn servers off, diagnose problems and restart servers from a remote management station on the LAN. The single-chip RMCs also enables server manufacturers to provide these sophisticated remote management capabilities in their entry-level servers. The Zircon UL & BL support the Intelligent Platform Management (IPMI) specification version 1.5. These RMCs provide baseboard management, remote management and virtual storage management on a single chip. These features allow system administrators to remotely access system configuration and status information, detect and diagnose errors, restart failed systems and install and upgrade component software.
