HBA blowout sale

Milpitas, Calif., headquartered LSI Logic Corp. is discounting its HBAs. The HBA Ultra ValueLine, an offering of Ultra160 and earlier technology SCSI boards will be offered at a 50% discounted price through October 31, 2002. The HBAs are supported with drivers and includes the LSIU160, an "all purpose server" single channel SCSI adapter; the LSIU80LVD, a low voltage differential (LVD) PCI-to-Ultra2 SCSI connection designed for backup and disaster recovery applications; the LSIU40HVD, a high voltage differential (HVD) SCSI adapter with two internal and external channels and well suited for long distance connections; and the LSIU40SE, a single-ended SCSI adapter with two internal and external channels that delivers multitasking interface for Ultra SCSI devices.

StorageTek pumps up disk controller, software

Storage Technology Corp., (StorageTek), Louisville, Colo., announced the availability of the StorageTek D280, D200 Disk Array Controller and SANtricity Storage Manager 8.3 software, the latest offerings in StorageTek's D-Series product family. The D280 allows users to consolidate their open systems storage by providing centrally managed, distributed storage pools tailored to business applications such as database, ERP, OLTP, email and Web serving, StorageTek said. The D280 features 2 Gigabit Fibre Channel host connectivity, LUN partitioning and snapshot copy and remote volume mirroring via SANtricity Storage Manager 8.3. Storage Technology Corp.

A BrightStor idea

Software specialist Computer Associates International Inc., (CA), Islandia, N.Y., announced the general availability of BrightStor Portal, an application for centralizing the management of distributed, multi-vendor storage environments, CA said. BrightStor Portal provides users with consolidated access to storage resources, storage management applications and critical information about their distributed storage operations. Its browser interface gives administrators real-time access and control of all of their networked storage resources regardless of platform, vendor or operating system. According to CA, integration with software and hardware products enables BrightStor Portal to consolidate storage management tasks, thereby streamlining daily operations and improving management decision-making. CA iSponsor/iGateway technology provides ready integration with leading storage solutions from Network Appliance, StoreAge, CacheWare, and LXI, among others, as well as CA's own BrightStor storage management applications - including BrightStor Enterprise Backup, BrightStor ARCserve Backup, BrightStor SRM and BrightStor SAN Manager, the company said.

BrightStor Portal is available for order today through CA's global sales channels, including authorized channel partners. Additional information about the BrightStor product family is available at Computer Associates International Inc.

DataCore and LSI speed SAN configuration

DataCore Software Corp., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and LSI Logic Corp., Milpitas, Calif., announced performance enhancements for 'Powered by DataCore'' SANs with LSI Logic storage adapters. The integration of DataCore's open storage networking platform, SANsymphony software, and the LSI Logic flagship 2 Gb/s Fibre Channel adapters boost the native throughput for managed storage servers while providing a transparent bridge to the installed base of 1 Gb/s storage arrays, DataCore said. The LSI Logic 2 Gb/s, dual-channel LSI44929O Fibre Channel storage can achieve speeds of up to 53,000 I/Os per second with small block reads. By transparently bridging 1 and 2 Gb/s devices, 'Powered by DataCore customers can harness the bandwidth of the LSI44929O storage adapter and leverage current hardware configurations without sacrificing reliability and interconnect distance. The LSI44929O and its underlying Fusion-MPT architecture is designed for use with data-intensive applications such as data warehousing, digital media and data mining.
