LSI adds replication
LSI Logic Storage Systems Inc., Milpitas, Calif., has added replication features to its SANtricity Storage Manager software. LSI said that SANtricity Storage Manager enables centralized administration, consolidation and online management of customers' storage. With the release of SANtricity 8.20 and its expanded replication capabilities, customers can minimize the potential for data loss through real-time remote volume mirroring between two different storage arrays. An exact copy of critical data can be mirrored from the primary data center to a remote location using high-speed Fibre Channel connections, according to LSI. The SANtricity 8.20 remote volume mirroring feature is available now for LSI Logic?s E4600 and E4400 storage systems and complements existing snapshot, SANshare Storage Partitioning and Dynamic Volume Expansion capabilities

FalconStor's software interoperates with IBM arrays
Melville, N.Y.-headquartered FalconStor Software Inc. announced the successful interoperability testing of StorageSmart, by IBM ProFibre Storage Array family of RAID subsystems, with FalconStor's IPStor software. FalconStor said the ProFibre line is designed for environments that require fast data transfer and high data availability, such as storage area networks (SAN), network-attached storage (NAS) and clustered server database platforms. IPStor offers ProFibre arrays with SAN-based services over Fibre Channel, IP/iSCSI, and NAS-based service over the NFS and CIFS protocols. The ProFibre Storage Array family is a storage solution featuring 2gb/sec Fibre Channel host attachment, and offers external RAID subsystems and JBOD enclosures ranging from simple direct-attach host to SAN storage.

Imperial makes solid-state for SANs cheap
Imperial Technology Inc., El Segundo, Calif., announced it is working with QLogic Corp., Aliso Viejo, Calif., to make storage area networks (SANs) more affordable. Small and medium businesses can set up an entry-level application accelerator for applications such as Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server, using the QLogic SAN Connectivity Kit 1000 and an Imperial file cache accelerator for less than $35,000, Imperial said. Imperial's SANaccelerator is a storage-centric architectural component where critical "hot files" are locked into a dedicated cache to ensure they are instantly available 100% of the time. In transaction-intensive database and OLTP applications, Imperial?s accelerators eliminate I/O bottlenecks and improve system throughput, Imperial said. The QLogic SAN Connectivity Kit 1000 includes a QLogic SANbox 8-port switch, four SANblade 2200 Series host bus adapters (HBAs), fiber optic cables and GBIC connectors, device driver software, documentation and computer based training CD. QLogic and Imperial are among more than 35 members of the Affordable SAN Initiative. Members of the initiative intend to dispel the notion that SANs are unaffordable for small and medium businesses by redefining and promoting SAN solutions for these customers with end-user pricing of $50,000 or less, a significant reduction in the typical $250,000 entry point to enterprise-class SANs.

DataCore goes to Japan
DataCore Software Corp., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., announced the availability of SANsymphony in Japanese, the company's first localized version of its software. Software from DataCore consolidates and automates storage management, enhances functionality and simplifies administration, according to DataCore. This version of SANsymphony is expected to be available for the Japanese market this summer through partners like Fujitsu and IBM Japan.
