Close monitoring of storage resources is fast becoming a critical component of complex storage networks and Astrum Software Corp., has struck up a pair of partnerships that will bring its storage resource management (SRM) software to a wider range of users.

Boston, Mass.-based Astrum announced Monday that it has signed agreements with Innovative Information Solutions Inc., Woodbury, Conn., an infrastructure specialist focusing on enterprise backup and storage deployments, and GlassHouse Technologies, an independent professional services firm headquartered in Framingham, Mass.

According to Astrum, the agreements will let Innovative and GlassHouse to offer their clients Astrum Software's StorCast SRM software.

Astrum said StorCast streamlines the management of storage across the entire enterprise while driving down overall storage management costs.

StorCast defines and manages storage according to a company's specific storage policies, reports on utilization rates and system and storage performance. The company said StorCast can improve data availability and help reclaim unused disk space across heterogeneous storage environments.

Astrum is also playing to the budget-conscious business managers looking for a sure thing when making technology investments in the current economic climate. Currently, Astrum is offering The StorCast Guarantee, a program that guarantees qualified Astrum customers that they will save 15% on storage, or receive StorCast for free.

Illuminata Inc., analyst John Webster said Astrum's SRM software is particularly focused on performance monitoring and management. He said that is what differentiates Astrum's product from its competition.

"Performance [monitoring] is the key if you want efficient automated storage networks," said Webster.

Companies like TeraCloud, Trellisoft, InterSAN, WQuinn, NTP Software and EMC, among others, offer SRM products.
