Storage roundup: Fujitsu and Symantec bundle hardware with data backup, storage management

This week's storage news:

Fujitsu and Symantec Corp. say they will bundle Symantec data backup, storage management and security software with Fujitsu hardware as part of a global strategic partnership.

The bundles will include Fujitsu Eternus storage systems and Primergy servers with Symantec's NetBackup, Backup Exec, Backup Exec System Recovery, Storage Foundation and Endpoint Protection software. The vendors say they are considering joint product development as well.

STORServer Reporter 2.5 released

STORServer Inc. released version 2.5 of its Reporter software, which monitors IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) environments and reports on trending of backup servers and clients. New features include asset management, performance reporting, departmental chargeback capabilities and trending analysis of TSM environmental constraints.

QNAP expands Turbo NAS lineup to midrange

QNAP Systems Inc. has expanded its Turbo NAS lineup with two new midrange NAS servers targeted at the enterprise and small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The two-drive TS-239 Pro II and four-drive TS-439 Pro II incorporate the Intel Atom D410 single-core processor and are compatible with VMware Inc.'s vSphere 4 virtualization platform.

Mimosa and Navigant form e-discovery partnership

Mimosa Systems Inc. and Navigant Consulting Inc. will partner to deliver software combining Mimosa's archiving technology with Navigant's eDiscovery Portal. The integrated solution aims to increase e-discovery control for legal counsel and law firm customers.

Dot Hill signs OEM agreement with Kyocera

Dot Hill Systems Corp. has entered into an OEM agreement with Kyocera Communication Systems (KCCS) Co. Ltd. KCCS will use Dot Hill RAID storage solutions for its data center service. KCCS customers will also be able to use Dot Hill's AssuredCopy volume copy and AssuredSnap snapshot software.

Austin Independent School District graduates to green data center

3PAR Inc. said the Austin Independent School District in Texas has deployed its InServ T400 Storage Server as part of a green data center initiative. The school district claims it has saved 55% in storage costs and has kept power demand increase down to less than 30% despite doubling the size of its data center.

GigeNET selects ParaScale software for cloud storage

Cloud software solution provider ParaScale Inc. said Chicago-based service provider GigeNET has selected ParaScale software as the cloud storage platform to power its compute and storage cloud solution.
