Storage roundup: StoneFly enhances iSCSI SAN OS with disaster recovery capabilities

StoneFly Inc. has upgraded the operating system for its iSCSI storage-area networks (SANs), adding disaster recovery (DR) capabilities and enhanced support for virtual machines.

StoneFusion 6.3 includes compatibility with StoneFly's Storage Concentrator Virtual Machine (SCVM) that creates a virtual IP SAN appliance and can be used with any virtual machine guest operating system. The upgraded OS also includes a Quick Sync feature for rapidly restoring mirrored iSCSI volumes, and Pass-thru Copy for migrating older storage data volumes from other storage systems to StoneFly volumes.

AutoVirt courts Brocade StorageX and NetApp VFM customers

AutoVirt Inc. has initiated a trade-in program for customers of Brocade Communications Systems' StorageX and NetApp's VFM file management products, which are now scheduled for end-of-life. AutoVirt will give StorageX or VFM customers a 50% discount for an AutoVirt software perpetual license and one year of free product support.

Viridity Software delivers green roadmap

Viridity Software Inc. came out of stealth with plans for an application-driven approach for data center energy management and asset optimization. Viridity will focus on tracing energy consumption through the application and IT equipment layer, performing a thorough analysis of the findings, and then generating an in-depth actionable report that includes comprehensive visual modeling.

SandForce grabs $21 million in funding

Solid-state drive (SSD) controller vendor SandForce Inc. said it has closed $21 million in Series C funding, led by new investor TransLink Capital. With the funding, SandForce is looking to expand its technical, business, support and operations staff, and accelerate new product development.

Emulex-Broadcom legal battles continue

Emulex filed a lawsuit against Broadcom alleging that Broadcom has acted in an anticompetitive manner in violation of federal antitrust laws, as well as made defamatory statements and engaged in acts of unfair competition in violation of seven separate statutes. The antitrust claims seek actual damages, attorneys' fees and costs, and injunctive relief and punitive damages. Broadcom, which unsuccessfully tried to buy host bus adapter (HBA) vendor Emulex, filed a lawsuit in Sept. accusing Emulex of infringing on its patents.
