This week's storage news:

Quantum Corp. launched a version of its DXi7500 data deduplication system optimized for network-attached storage (NAS) and Symantec Corp. OpenStorage (OST) interfaces.

The DXi7500-N includes six Gigabit Ethernet and two Fibre Channel (FC) ports, and bundled NAS as a standard feature. The DXi7500 Quantum has sold since early 2008 has been mostly deployed as a FC-based virtual tape library (VTL), but the new configuration is aimed at customers who want to use deduplicated backup in larger OpenStorage environments where Ethernet is required. Quantum also added application-aware path-to-tape support for Oracle Secure Backup and Atempo Time Navigator, as well as Shadow Tape Creation support for Symantec Backup Exec, CA Arcserve and BakBone NetVault.

Xiotech offers Cash for Disk Clunkers program

Xiotech Corp. initiated a Cash for Disk Clunkers program to entice organizations to trade old storage systems for its new Emprise 7000/Emprise 7000 Edge/Emprise 5000 or VM Storage Solution storage. For customers who trade old disk drives, Xiotech is offering $1,000 per terabyte toward the purchase of an equal amount of capacity on its systems.

Xsigo lands EMC reseller deal

Xsigo Systems Inc. and EMC Corp. entered into a reseller agreement enabling Xsigo to sell EMC Data Protection Advisor analysis and reporting software along with its virtual I/O devices.

Isilon IQ pronounced VMware Ready

Isilon Systems Inc. has received VMware Ready status for its scale-out NAS product family. The designation indicates Isilon IQ has passed a detailed evaluation and testing process managed by VMware and is now listed on the VMware Partner Product Catalog.

CommVault receives FIPS certification

CommVault Systems Inc. has received Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 certification for its Cryptographic Library from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). CommVault's Cryptography Library is used within its Simpana software, and when operated in FIPS mode ensures advanced encryption, including cryptographic services for key generation, symmetric and asymmetric encryption, hash functionality and Hash Message Authentication Code (HMAC) security, as well as signature generation and verification.

Dot Hill expands patent portfolio

Dot Hill Systems Corp. received two new patents for its entry-level and midrange storage-area network (SAN) systems. One patent provides a method for a failed storage controller to failover to another controller and give the surviving controller the failed controller's I/O ports. The other patent improves write-performance for active-active storage controllers in a redundant controller configuration by making the mirroring of write-data between redundant controllers more efficient.

HP's EDS provides storage services for Nissan

Hewlett-Packard (HP) Co.'s EDS services group signed a multi-year deal to provide automaker Nissan North America (NNA) with storage and server technology. EDS will provide management services for NNA's server and storage environment, a portion of which will be relocated to an EDS data center in Tulsa, Okla.
