Hitachi Data Systems bulks up server virtualization support

Hitachi Data Systems rolled out Hitachi Storage Cluster for Microsoft Hyper-V and Hitachi Storage Replication Adapter for VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager as part of an end-to-end, server-to-storage virtualization initiative.

Hitachi Storage Cluster for Microsoft Hyper-V combines the key platform capabilities of Microsoft Windows Server 2008, including high availability through Microsoft Multipath I/O, server virtualization and clustering, with Hitachi Data Systems' storage virtualization and system-based replication.

The second generation of Hitachi Storage Replication Adapter for VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager adds support for the midrange Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage (AMS) family. Replication Adapter provides continuous, real-time local and remote replication, as well as automatic failover capabilities.

PHD Virtual Technologies adds dedupe to virtual machine backup app

PHD Virtual Technologies released esXpress 3.5 with enhanced functionality for enterprise management of its virtual machine data protection and recovery product. The new release features a multi-user global deployment and configuration application, advanced block-and-file-level backup and source-side global data deduplication across the entire ESX farm. esXpress 3.5 pricing starts at $1,000 per host for four concurrent backup streams.

Asigra receives Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V certification

Asigra Inc. is now certified with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, ensuring that Asigra's backup and recovery platform will be effective in the Hyper-V environment. Asigra claims its customers who also use Hyper-V will have a centralized management interface, any-to-any restore capability, automated mass deployment and single interface management across distributed environments.

Storwize optimizes OS for Intel Xeon

Storwize Inc. has optimized its STN-OS operating system software to work with the Intel Corp. Xeon processor 5500 Series. Storwize is a member of the Intel Software Partner Program, and is working with Intel to improve performance metrics after successfully integrating Intel micro-architecture.

Dot Hill partners with Uniadex on VTL solutions in Japan

Dot Hill Systems Corp. and Uniadex Ltd. have partnered to offer a virtual tape library (VTL) product to customers in Japan. The bundle includes the Dot Hill 2330 iSCSI RAID storage array and BakBone Software Inc.'s NetVault:Backup, which includes VTL and shared virtual tape library (SVTL) options.

QNAP rolls out TS-239 Pro Turbo NAS

QNAP Systems Inc. launched the two-bay Intel Atom-based TS-239 Pro Turbo NAS with iSCSI target service for small- and medium-sized business (SMB) and small office/home office (SOHO) users. The TS-239 offers 350 MBps of throughput when 20 clients are accessing the NAS simultaneously, support for two 2 TB hard drives, hot-swappable disk trays with locks, two Giga local-area network (LAN) ports, three USB 2.0 ports and two eSATA ports.

Fujifilm launches high-density tape storage

Fujifilm Recording Media U.S.A. Inc. released the Gemtrac High Density Tape Library. Each library unit has two self-contained opposing cabinets and can store up to 4,060 LTO data cartridges. Each tape is stored in an individual slot for protection.

Integreon closes Onsite3 deal

Integreon completed acquisition of the e-discovery assets of Washington, D.C.-based Onsite3, which provides electronic evidence support for law firms and corporations. Terms of the transaction weren't disclosed.

3PAR vet joins Fusion-io

Flash-based storage adapter startup Fusion-io said it has hired former 3PAR worldwide sales vice president (VP) Jim Dawson to run its sales organization. Dawson's 20-year career in storage includes 13 years at Data General, which EMC Corp. acquired in 1999. He joins Fusion-io as senior VP of worldwide sales.
