Double-Take tackles Hyper-V disaster recovery

This week's storage news:
Double-Take Software Inc. launched Double-Take for Hyper-V, which provides failover for high-availability and disaster recovery for Microsoft's hypervisor product for virtual servers. Double-Take for Hyper-V can replicate Hyper-V at the host, support an unlimited number of virtual machines, and works over the local-area network (LAN) and wide-area network (WAN).

Idealstor supports 2 TB removable SATA drives
Idealstor said it now supports 2 TB removable SATA drives in its disk-to-disk (D2D) backup systems. Idealstor systems scale from one removable drive bay up to eight bays for a maximum of 16 TB. Its 3.5-inch drives can be removed for offsite storage and disaster recovery.

Pivot3 bolsters data recovery
Pivot3 Inc. rolled out NVR Recovery for the Pivot3 Serverless Computing platform. The data recovery features protect surveillance systems by automatically restarting applications such as video management systems, access control and video analytics in case of a server failure. NVR Recovery restarts a failed application on a virtual machine and provides access to previously recorded video. The NVR Recovery feature will be included with all Pivot3 Serverless Computing arrays.

Dell picks Mellanox InfiniBand switches
Mellanox Technologies Ltd. said Dell Inc. selected its 40 Gbps InfiniBand ConnectX I/O mezzanine adapter and M3601Q InfiniScale IV-based blade switches for the Dell PowerEdge M610 and M710 blade servers. Dell is also using Mellanox blade switches for the PowerEdge M1000e-series Modular Blade Enclosures. The new Dell blade servers incorporate Intel Corp.'s recently announced Xeon processor 5500 Series.

HP clusters Voltaire InfiniBand switch
Voltaire Ltd.'s Grid Director 4036 InfiniBand switch is available for the Hewlett-Packard (HP) Co. Cluster Platforms based on new HP ProLiant G6 servers. The Grid Director 4036 is a 36-port, 40 Gbps switch that optimizes I/O throughput for multicore servers.

Index Engines indexes 1 billion objects
Index Engines Inc. claims one of its engines can support index and search capability for up to 1 billion data objects. By indexing full text and meta data through a centralized index in 250 million object segments, Index Engines can fully query and extract 1 billion objects within one appliance.

Emulex HBAs and CNAs optimized for Xeon 5500
Emulex Corp. said its LightPulse host bus adapters (HBAs) and OneConnect Universal Converged Network Adapters (CNAs) have been optimized to work with the Intel Xeon processor 5500 Series. Data center servers based on the Intel Xeon processor 5500 Series can use the Emulex LPe12000 family of 8 Gbps HBAs to maximize I/O bandwidth.

HP incorporates PMC-Sierra SAS chip
Hewlett-Packard Co.'s ProLiant DL360 G6, DL380 G6 and BL460c servers are shipping with PMC-Sierra Inc.'s 6 Gbps SAS RAID-on-Chip (RoC) and SAS Expander. The servers have PMC-Sierra's SRC RoC embedded on the motherboard with 6 gig SAS enabled. The end-to-end chipset enables ProLiant G6 servers to reach RAID 5 write-throughput levels that are 150% greater than ProLiant G5 controllers.
