iQstor claims highest-density full-function storage array
SAN developer iQstor Networks, Inc., is aiming its iQ5200 high-density storage array at businesses with demanding high-capacity environments. The iQ5200 delivers up to 52 TB of fault-tolerant storage capacity in a 4U array, giving it a storage density of 13 TB per rack inch using 1TB drives, along with the ability to scale up to 1.04 PB under a single management interface. Enterprise-class software features include volume manager-based virtualization, snapshot, volume copy, remote replication, storage provisioning and policy-driven capacity expansion. The iQ5200 with 52 TB SATA capacity will start at $34,995 and will be available in Q1 2009.

QLogic Infiniband switches can scale to 864 ports
QLogic Corp. claims that its 12000 Series of 40Gb quad data rate (QDR) InfiniBand switches can scale up to 864 ports, the highest port count for a rack-mount switch. The company also claims that the switches also offer 51.8 TB/sec aggregate bandwidth, the highest numbers of ports per 1U of rack space for a director switch (29.8 ports per 1U); and consume only 7.8 watts per port. The switch is in the process of being certified by HPC vendors.
