Violin Memory launches 4 TB Flash appliance
Violin Memory has announced the availability of Single Level Cell (SLC) NAND Flash Modules for its Violin 1010 memory appliance. The Violin 1010 DRAM appliance supports more than one million IOPS to a single host, accelerating database applications. A single Violin 1010 appliance supports 4 TB of Flash capacity in a 2U appliance. It consumes 80% less space and power than similar systems.

Adaptec HBAs compatible with more than 200 I/O devices
Adaptec has unveiled a family of HBAs featuring its Unified Serial architecture. The Series 1 Unified Serial HBA line includes two cards, one with four internal ports (the 1405) and one with four external ports (the 1045). Both support up to 128 SATA or SAS storage devices and include PCIe connectivity. According to Adaptec, the Series 1 cards are compatible with more than 200 I/O devices. The Adaptec 1405 Kit (US$190), the Adaptec 1405 Single (US$160), and the Adaptec 1045 Single (US$190) begin shipping in mid-November. Dot Hill releases DC power supply for 2000 Series
Dot Hill Systems has extended general availability of its DC power supply option to its 2000 Series. Announced in June with the company's 5730 midrange storage arrays, the power supply option allows users to improve energy efficiencies and realize cost savings in the data center and remote/mobile environments. The company is also offering WDR RE2-GP 1 TB SATA hard drives, featuring Western Digital's GreenPower technology across its entry-level line of RAID storage systems based on the Dot Hill Rapid Evolution Architecture. The WD RE2-GP drives use on average four to five watts less than similar-size and format 7200 RPM drives from other suppliers resulting in an annual saving of $10 per year, per disk drive.

Degaussing appliance erases hard-to-reach data
Fujitsu now offers a secure degaussing solution for the permanent erasure of all magnetically recorded data on hard disk drives and other storage devices. Using earth magnet technology, the Mag EraSure ME-P3 Version 2 appliance erases data embedded several layers down that might not have been deleted using conventional methods on hard disk drives, tapes and other magnetically recorded media, in 15 seconds, three times faster than earlier models of the degausser.
