NetApp ships 12 TB StoreVault iSCSI SAN Storage vendors rally around Windows Server 2008 Microsoft officially launched Windows Server 2008 Thursday, and storage vendors responded with a parade of statements of interoperability for the new software. QLogic and Emulex declared that their cards will work with the new server, while FalconStor suggested that users turn to its IPStor storage virtualization software for data migration to the new server. NetApp, EMC and CA reported new certifications for existing storage products with Windows Server 2008. Sanbolic said its Melio 2008 virtual file system and LaScala 2008 volume management software will form the storage underpinnings for Microsoft's new virtual server, Hyper-V, which will be included in Windows Server 2008. Emulex manages HBAs on VMware ESX 3iEmulex unveiled the integration of its host bus adapter management architecture with VMware's ESX Server 3i embedded hypervisor. The software offers centralized management of virtualized servers connecting to SANs.
Wasabi launches iSCSI SAN appliances Wasabi Systems rolled out a line of VMX iSCSI SAN appliances, which support multiple GigE interfaces and SATA or SAS drives. Models include the entry-level VMX 2000e, which scales to 12 TB raw, and the VMX 2000sx, which has a capacity limit of 60 TB raw and 400 MBps performance. Both models use a 2U/12 drive rack-mounted chassis and are available starting at $5,999 for a 2 TB system. Brocade launches new router, signs new deal with NetApp Brocade released the 7500E SAN router this week, an FCIP extender for entry-level remote data replication. Brocade 7500E customers can also upgrade to full Brocade 7500 capability via a software license upgrade. In a separate release, NetApp said it would OEM the Brocade DCX Backbone as part of its data center portfolio. Panasas reports sales rose in 2007 Panasas said it had a record-breaking year in 2007, recording its highest annual billings ever and increasing its customer base by 35%. International business now represents close to 40% of sales, and sales from channel partners increased to a record one-third of overall sales, due to new partnerships with Dell, SGI and international resellers. PowerFile simplifies data archives PowerFile's Archive Facilitator appliance simplifies archiving by automatically discovering, classifying and moving fixed content to the Active Archive Appliance. Other features include unlimited filer scanning, licensed only on archiving capacity; contextual classification based on metadata; and tag and link migration policies. The product is available immediately; pricing was not disclosed. C2C supports federated search, tagging Version 5.4 of C2C's email archive will integrate into federated search on Microsoft Search Server, SharePoint MOSS 2007 and Internet Explorer "custom search providers," and now supports the OpenSearch V1.1 standard offering. The new version of the software will also support collaborative tagging for e-discovery and will be available in March with pricing starting at $20 per mailbox. Moonwalk integrates with S3 Moonwalk said the latest version of its software provides "last mile" connectivity with Amazon's S3 online backup service for Windows, Netware, OES2, SUSE and RedHat system users. CA gets DoD certification CA Records Manager has been certified by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) against version 3 of the DoD 5015.2 standard. CA was among the first to be invited to certify against the new, more stringent standard. Copan, Luminex partner for mainframe VTL Copan and Luminex said Luminex's Channel Gateway mainframe VTL will run on Copan's MAID arrays. Caringo launches developer program Caringo opened up an API for ISVs wanting to port applications to its CAStor archive product with the CaringoConnect Developer Program. The program, a dedicated web portal for integration and validation with CAStor, will be aimed at software developers in the ISV, academic, systems integrator and Web 2.0 sectors. Zmanda for MySQL runs on Solaris Zmanda upgraded Zmanda Recovery Manager for MySQL on the Solaris 10 operating system. ZRM 2.1 also includes plug-ins for snapshots and centralized management. Organizations deploy new Xiotech disk array Four companies -- Bound to Stay Books, DCM Services, Marco and Nuconsteel -- have deployed Xiotech's Magnitude 3D 4000 disk array. Nuconsteel also deployed Xiotech's TimeScale 200 CDP and asynchronous replication system. Medical center archives with IBM and ByCast Richardson Regional Medical Center has standardized on Bycast StorageGRID storage management software as part of IBM's Grid Medical Archive Solution (GMAS) to archive PACS images. IBM's Storage business delivers the Bycast software to market as part of its GMAS. The storage system distributes data across two campuses, replacing mirroring over a high-bandwidth connection. |
