Kazeon mind-melds with Google
Data classification startup Kazeon Systems Inc. announced a joint product with search engine powerhouse Google that will integrate Kazeon's Information Server1200 with Google's OneBox. Each box will have a module that can read data from the other's search results, so that users can be presented with both sets of results in the same interface. (Kazeon's server searches within the storage infrastructure, while Google's OneBox generally searches the Internet and Web servers only). The boxes will remain separate, and users need both boxes in order to use this feature, according to Kazeon's vice president of product marketing Troy Toman.
"We had some mutual customers who wanted us to add this functionality," he said.
Previously, Google had announced a similar-sounding partnership with Kazeon competitor StoredIQ (See Google to enter data classification market, Sept. 21, 2005). According to Kevin Smith, partner program manager, Google Enterprise, the announcement with Kazeon doesn't mean StoredIQ is out.
"Both Kazeon and StoredIQ are in the Google Enterprise Professional program," Smith said. "The program is not exclusive, so competitors could potentially be in the program, but partners do tend to have different areas of focus. Kazeon focuses more on complementing Google search with its own storage search, while StoredIQ focuses more specifically on compliance issues."
CA acquires records management startup
CA Inc. announced the acquisition of MDY Group International Inc., a provider of enterprise records management software and services. MDY's products allow users to centrally manage physical and electronic records. CA says the acquisition will allow it to offer more storage management products for compliance, corporate governance and legal discovery.
Atempo certified with Copan
Copan Systems and Atempo Inc. announced that Atempo Time Navigator is certified as a Copan Systems MAID-Aware Solution -- meaning the backup software will work with the Copan virtual tape library.
LightSand, Repton team up on SAN connectivity
LightSand Communications Inc. announced today that it has signed a reselling agreement with Repton, which will provide LightSand with SAN connectivity over distance to its midsized to large enterprise customers in the U.K.
NetApp joins SQL program
Network Appliance Inc (NetApp) announced membership in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Always On program. NetApp claims its storage systems achieved record high TPC-C performance benchmark in an IBM and SQL Server 2005 test environment. NetApp also boasts SnapManager 2.0 for SQL Server software in support of SQL Server 2005.
